Cass City EV Charging Station Project Faces Delays

CASS CITY, MI — Cass City’s plans for a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station have encountered delays due to communication issues with the company overseeing the installation. Village Manager Debbie Powell revealed that the company, which had proposed the project to the village in 2023, has not responded to multiple inquiries in recent months.

The proposal included installing a dual-port charging station capable of servicing two vehicles simultaneously, with the company handling all maintenance and repairs at no cost to the village. The village was also set to receive compensation for electricity usage, earning 5 cents per kilowatt-hour of power used for charging over a ten-year period.

The project was part of a broader initiative involving General Motors dealerships, and the village accepted the proposal in early 2024, citing Cass City as a prime location for the station. However, Powell’s attempts to gain further details on the project’s timeline or progress have gone unanswered, leaving village officials uncertain about its future.

As Cass City looks to expand its infrastructure to support the growing need for sustainable transportation, the lack of communication has raised concerns about the viability of the EV station project. Village leaders remain hopeful that the initiative can move forward, but as of now, they await further engagement from the company to clarify the project’s status.

For now, the community remains in limbo as officials continue their efforts to bring the charging station to fruition, a project that could benefit local residents and travelers passing through the region.
