SEBEWAING, MI — On Monday, October 7, 2024, a long gun in a case was found lying on M25 in the Village of Sebewaing. It is believed the firearm was likely left behind on a boat, trailer, or possibly the back of a vehicle by someone traveling to or from duck hunting in the area. Authorities suspect that it may have fallen unnoticed by the owner during transit.

The local law enforcement team has encouraged anyone who is missing a shotgun to come forward, provided they can accurately describe the weapon. In a lighthearted response to potential inquiries from the public, the police reassured residents that they had already run the firearm through their database, and it did not come back registered to anyone.

Addressing the inevitable suggestions from “armchair detectives” to “try running it through the computers,” the police humorously noted that this step had already been completed, but the weapon remained unregistered.

Anyone who believes this weapon may belong to them is asked to contact the Sebewaing Police Department at (989) 883-2380 or via email at police@sebewaingmi.gov.
