BARAGA COUNTY, MI – Fire crews were hard at work over the weekend, tackling several small wildfires across Michigan. One fire, currently spanning 120 acres on federal land in Baraga County, is being closely monitored by federal fire teams.

With dry, breezy, and warmer conditions prevailing throughout much of the state, the risk of wildfires remains high. Residents are encouraged to check Michigan.gov/BurnPermit to verify if burning is permitted in their area and to take precautions, such as keeping water nearby.

The Thumb of Michigan, while not currently a high-risk area, is part of the broader region facing potential fire concerns. Known for its vast agricultural land and rural communities, the Thumb is also susceptible to fire risks during dry spells. Residents in the Thumb are urged to follow safety guidelines to prevent any potential fire hazards.
